Transforming Blood Health with Expert Diagnosis and Care

Haematology focuses on conditions related to the blood, blood-forming organs, and the lymphatic system. The Haematology Laboratory plays a crucial role in diagnosing, treating, and preventing these disorders by performing tests that help understand their causes, how they affect the body, and how to manage them effectively.

The Haematology Laboratory performs a range of tests to diagnose and monitor various conditions. These include testing for anemia, infections such as dengue and malaria that impact platelets and red blood cells, and disorders of the blood clotting system. The laboratory also specializes in detecting blood cancers, including leukemias, lymphomas, and myeloma, as well as inherited blood disorders like thalassemia and sickle cell anemia.

Some of the investigations (laboratory and other tests) we offer are:

Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT)
Antithrombin III Level
Blood picture examination by Haematologist
ESR
Full blood count (FBC)
G6PD deficiency
Hb Electrophoresis (Hb/HPLC)
Osmotic Fragility Test
Prothrombin Time (PT)
Thrombin Time (TT)
Mixing study (PT / APTT)
Fibrinogen
D-dimers
Protein C
Protein S
Von Willebrand factor antigen
Factor XIII Assay (clot solubility)
Malaria parasite / Malaria antigen
Inhibitor Screening
Sickling test
Smear for microfolaria
Factor VIII level
Factor IX level
Blood Bone Marrow Iron stain
Lupus Anticoagulant
Reticulocyte count
Bone marrow slide stain

Haematology related tests are used to identify a variety of diseases including:

Anemia: Occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough red blood cells or when the red blood cells contain abnormal hemoglobin. Hemoglobin, found in red blood cells, is responsible for delivering oxygen throughout the body. Causes can include dietary deficiencies, inherited disorders, etc.
Blood cancers: such as Leukaemia, Lymphoma, etc. that affects the blood cells, interfering with the production and function of normal blood cells.
Clotting or Bleeding Disorders: These happen when the body doesn’t produce enough clotting factors, which are proteins essential for blood clotting, or when platelets (cells involved in clotting) are too few or don’t function properly. This can lead to excessive bleeding or abnormal blood clotting.
Bone Marrow Disorders: The bone marrow is the site where blood cells are produced. Disorders are due to nutritional deficiencies, developmental problems, infections, or cancer.
